What characterises an Allsorts website?
As far as possible, all our sites are built using code which is
- standards compliant (W3C)
- clean and uncluttered
- accessible
- clearly structured and easy to maintain
In practice this means that the sites will
- load quickly
- display accurately in all major browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome)
- function for people with disabilities and people using text-only browsers
- be easy to update or to take over (if necessary) by a new webmaster
Other advantages
Easy to find
Sites are written in such a way that they are easy for search engines such as Google to find and index correctly, using tags, attributes, content and URL & sitemap submission.
Fluid
In order to accommodate the many different monitor sizes and resolutions, and the fact that visitors may not have their browser window maximised, a fluid layout is used. This rearranges text and images depending on the width of the browser window so that sites display well however visitors choose to view it.
Secure
We make sure that sensitive information needed by your site (such as login details) is stored securely. In addition, all email addresses on the site are "scrambled" so that they are invisible to programs intended to harvest email addresses for spamming purposes.
Easy to maintain
Software and a password-protected upload facility can be provided so that you can make day-to-day changes yourself. If several people need to be able to update different parts of the site, individual passwords can be linked to each of these.
